About Me

tm-head.jpg
I’m a pianist, composer, and freelancer willing to work on anything that increases the quantity and quality of music in the universe.  Brooklyn, NY is my home base, and I perform regularly in the New York City area and occasionally elsewhere on the East Coast.  I play and compose with several bands and solo artists, and also as a solo artist and with my own group, the Tony Melone Trio. Aside from performing, I record and produce CD’s, teach lessons, and sometimes build websites. My background and training is mainly in jazz, but I enjoy playing many different styles of music. Explore this site for more information.

Random facts:

  • Favorite NYC venues I’ve played: The Blue Note, The Brooklyn Museum, Galapagos Art Space, Rockwood Music Hall, The Living Room, Barbes, Paddy Reilly’s Music Bar (where I’ve done more than 100 shows).
  • I graduated from Oberlin College and Conservatory in 1999 with degrees in English and Music.
  • I play the organ every Sunday at Bethel Temple Church, 2466 Webster Ave., Bronx, NY.
  • My dad, Bill Melone, does a jazz radio show every Tuesday morning on WRIU in Kingston, RI.
  • My brother, Paul Melone is an accomplished theater director and manager working at Speakeasy Stage Co. in Boston.
  • My wife, Leah, teaches science at Saint Ann’s School in Brooklyn. She has been very patient during the hours I’ve spent making this site (in the middle of her summer vacation, no less).
