New Trio Recording #2 – STS

space shuttle DiscoveryThis is an old song of mine that I finally got around to recording. I’m releasing it today in honor of STS-128, wishing them a safe return to earth tomorrow. I’ve been fascinated by the space shuttle and space exploration in general since I was nine years old. I hope you’ll indulge me with a listen and leave a comment below if you like it (or if you don’t). The Tony Melone Trio is bassist Ian Riggs, drummer Evan Pazner, and myself. Usually we play jazz, though songs like this are harder to classify. I’ll post some more recordings soon; subscribe if you want to stay in the loop.

Canarsie Suite in Brooklyn

Earlier this year I had the opportunity to compose some music for a unique theater piece called Canarsie Suite. In a nutshell, it’s a re-imagining of an early 20th century vaudeville show, with some insight into the absurd and sometimes tragic circumstances of the performers. The show was devised and performed by Aimee German and Jenny Sargent, two very talented actors/acrobats/clowns.  They had two very successful runs this summer at fringe festivals in Brighton (UK) and Prague, and the show is coming to The Brick Theater in Williamsburg, Brooklyn starting Friday 9/4. Shows are at 8pm on Sept 4 & 5, and 10pm on Sept 11 & 12, tickets are $15. Then on to the New Orleans fringe festival in November!
