New York, NY 11215 Live music, 7 days a week, no cover. Grand piano, full bar, food, desserts, fireplace. In the heart of NYC’s Greenwich Village. |
| Other Info | Guitarist George Kormendi and I recently discovered that we both have a stack of lovely original tunes that have hardly seen daylight, and a shared interest in performing classic and underappreciated jazz repertoire. In the course of a few weeks of rehearsal and recording, we've also found much common ground in our playing, particularly in our appreciation of subtle harmonic details, and in our preference for fewer notes and more feeling. Our appearance at Caffe Vivaldi marks the maiden voyage of what will hopefully be a long and fruitful collaboration. We'll play from 6-7pm. There's no cover, though we may pass the hat. If not now, then when? Listen to some rehearsal recordings of George and me on Soundcloud. |

| Other Info | I'm very pleased to announce my first solo show of all my own tunes and arrangements. I've been fortunate to perform with many great musicians, but now I feel it's time to see what I can do all by myself. Well, not quite by myself--singer and composer Susan Oetgen (of Likeness to Lily) will join me for a tune or two. But for the most part it'll be yours truly playing and singing music ranging from interpretations of Ellington/Strayhorn tunes to arrangements of old hymns to my unclassifiable original songs. Caffe Vivaldi has a lovely grand piano and is a warm, intimate performance space. Come check out this experiment, and if it goes well there'll be many more. No cover, all ages, 9:30-11pm. |

New Trio Recording #5 – NPS
Posted by Tony Melone in My Music, Projects, Recordings on November 23, 2009
Here’s our interpretation of the great Cedar Walton tune NPS. I’ve got a few more unreleased tracks to post here once I finish mixing them, so I hope you’ll subscribe to get an email when I post another. The Tony Melone Trio is bassist Ian Riggs, drummer Evan Pazner, and myself. Recorded by me.
Mp3 format
NPS by Cedar Walton (320 kbps mp3)
FLAC format
This file is encoded in the FLAC lossless format, a free, un-copy-protected format that offers CD quality (better than mp3). To play FLAC files, there’s a couple good free programs: VLC is nice, but if you use Windows, my new favorite is the unfortunately named Foobar2000. This program has good music library features and implements ReplayGain, which makes for a much better listening experience.

New Trio Recording #4 – Someone To Watch Over Me
Posted by Tony Melone in My Music, Projects, Recordings on October 14, 2009
It took me a while, but I finally have another track mixed from the recent Tony Melone Trio recording session. This is my arrangement of a classic Gershwin tune. If you listen closely to this one you’ll hear special guest artist Lola chiming in with a few well-timed barks…a giveaway that this is a home recording. But even though we weren’t in a real studio, I think it sounds pretty good. Stay tuned for a few more tracks from this session. The Tony Melone Trio is bassist Ian Riggs, drummer Evan Pazner, and myself. Recorded by me.

New Trio Recording #3 – Bewitched
Posted by Tony Melone in My Music, Projects, Recordings on September 18, 2009
Here’s a recent recording of my trio playing one of my favorite jazz standards. It’s a quiet one, so it probably won’t sound great on your laptop speakers, but I hope you’ll plug in some headphones and check it out. I plan to keep on posting new recordings for free download for a few more weeks at least, until I figure out a killer new business model, but if you leave some encouraging comments I’ll post them sooner. The Tony Melone Trio is bassist Ian Riggs, drummer Evan Pazner, and myself.

New Aprille Goodman Recording
Posted by Tony Melone in Bands, Projects, Recordings on August 31, 2009

Just recorded some new tracks with the talented singer/guitarist/songwriter Aprille Goodman and her band. Check out one track below, and get a CD with all the new tunes for free if you come to our show at the Oak Room on September 2. This show is a little more expensive than our usual gigs, so we wanted to throw in something extra for those that make it out. Details on the gig posting. The recording below features Aprille Goodman singing, myself on piano, Justin Hosek on bass, and Brian Quinn on drums. Recorded at Bunker Studios, Brooklyn, mixed by me.

New Trio Recording #1
Posted by Tony Melone in My Music, Projects, Recordings on August 22, 2009
The Tony Melone Trio is bassist Ian Riggs, drummer Evan Pazner, and myself. We’ve been playing together for at least nine years in numerous bands, but we occasionally get a chance to perform or record some jazz standards and some of my own tunes. We put out a CD called Ground Level back in 2001 (I still have some, contact me if you want one), but we just recently started working on a new album. Here’s a little taste of what we’ve got so far. Recorded and mixed by me.
